The new Guia Roji (2002) indicates that it is possible to travel from Ajijic to Texas entirely on four lane highways except for the 50 mile stretch between Lagos de Moreno and Villa de Arriaga. Is this just a futuristic concept on the part of the map makers? Can one really avoid those lovely hairpin turns south of San Luis Potosi or that 235 mile jaunt across the desert on the 2 lane, no shoulder, white knuckler from Zacatecas to Saltillo? Seriously, (1) is there really a four laner from Villa de Arriaga to Mexico Highway 57 and (2) is Highway 57 now 4 lanes from that point all the way to just east of Saltillo?

As of the first of March there was still much construction going on west of San Luis Potasi. Perhaps the last 20 miles or so were 4 lane. From then on it is 4 lane until the police check point outside Monterrey.<p>I still prefer the "white knuckler" route with is dearth of trucks.

Warren, thanks for the reply but I'm a bit confused. We wouldn't come withen ten miles of San Luis Potosi using the route I described. My question if whether or not there's a 4 lane Highway(as shown by Guia Roji 2002) from Villa de Arriaga (on Highway 80/70) to Highway 57? This road was not shown in our old Guia Roji (97-98). I'm more than a little suspicious because it shows this road to be perfectly straight from Villa de Arriaga to Biedos and then perfectly straight from Biedos to where it joins Highway 57 at the by-pass to the eastern side of San Luis Potosi. Furthermore, the map shows no highway number. Perhaps it is a planned highway, but those are usually shown as "broken" roadways.
