INM form required to exit Mexico with FM3/2

Can't Post | Private Reply
We are getting ready to take our annual trip north for about 2 weeks. We hold an FM3 and an FM2 which does not expire until December 2010 so we still have the old booklets not the new cards. We plan to cancel our car permit and go to the INM office to get our FM's stamped out. Before May 1 we used the "pink" form F.M.E. for foreigners to exit and then to re-enter. Does anyone know if the FMM is now being used to exit and return? I can only find info on coming into Mexico not going out especially on an FM3/2.

Since you speak of cancelling a car permit, I assume you are driving out of the country.

Last time I drove out, in late April, I simply took my FM2 visa into the office at Km21, south of Nogales, and the agent stamped it. When I returned, two weeks later, same procedure, and he stamped me back in. There were no forms to fill out and maintain like when I fly out and back into Mexico.

I am looking forward to the experience of processing out and back in next time I go NoB with my new lamenated FM2 visa card.

We just crossed on Monday through the Colombia crossing (yes, we were driving!). The INM agent had us fill out the new FMM form which he then entered into the computer. He gave us one part of the form and stamped our FM3 & FM2. He checked the back part for stastical purposes only and told us to bring our part of the FMM back to INM when we return. Easy and fast even with the new procedures.

BTW for anyone interested we encountered no problems on the drive.

Good luck at your local INM when you take back that form. It has been taking me 1.5 - 2 hours to make it to the window to even tell them what I need to do.

In reference to the Morelia INAMI; we try to get there 20 minutes before it opens (9:00 a.m) so that we can be among the first served.

That tactic hasn't been working lately. My partner sat at INM in Morelia for more than 10 hours over the course of four days to accomplish just turning in the APPLICATION for her FM-2. Of course, she had already filled out all the forms on line. It was the checking of every detail, every T crossed and every I dotted at least three times, that took forever. The first INM official said no, it has to be done this way instead. The next day, another INM official changed what the first person said. The third day, another change or two. *sigh*
