mapwise - it seems to make sense to use Reynosa instead of Matamoros as a border crossing
Any suggestions?

I prefer Reynosa to cross and then the 90mile straight flat road to the main highway south. I like to avoid Tampico if possible, and some of the road south of there is rough 2 lane still. An EZ 2 day drive, but a frenzied looong one day run.
Pernel

Also, consider crossing at Los Indios, just below Harlingen. It gets less traffic and saves a few miles of driving, and at Reynosa you have to make a U-turn on a busy highway (Hwy 2) and there's no sign to show where to make the turn.
