Houston Hobby-Border by bus

If you want to go to the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas (McAllen, Harlingen, or Brownsville), Valley Transit may be the best bet. I believe that they leave from the Greyhound bus station in Houston, which is in the southern part of downtown Houston.
There are also Mexican buses that leave from around 70th and Harrisburg that go to Monterrey. I believe that they go through Roma, Texas, which is in the western part of the Lower Rio Grande Valley. The toll-free number for Adame is 1-800-923-1799. The number in Houston is 713-923-1799.
Autobuses Monterrey also leaves from near that location. The two numbers I have for them are 713-921-4300 and 713-921-4301. The last time I used them, which was about six or seven years ago, they only had buses that left at night from Houston to Monterrey.
There is a city bus which goes directly from Hobby airport to 70th and Harrisburg. However, you may have to wait a while to get it. You could call Houston Metro at 713-635-4000 to find out the schedule for this bus.
The last I heard, it costs somewhere around $25 to $35 to take a cab from Hobby field to 70th and Harrisburg. It will cost you more than that to take a cab to the Greyhound bus station. (I personally like the first class Mexican buses a lot better than the American buses.)
If the price is right, you might want to also consider taking another flight from Houston to McAllen. It shouldn't cost much more than $10 to go via cab from Miller field in McAllen to the bus station in McAllen. (For probably $30 to $40, you could probably get a cab to Reynosa from there.) There, you can find a number of buses (such as Valley Transit), that go directly to Reynosa. There is also a Noreste bus, which I use quite a bit, that goes from McAllen to Monterrey via Reynosa.
By the way, I am from Houston and have been living in Monterrey, Mexico for over eight years now. : Can anyone tell me the best way to get from Houston Hobby to the border (anywhere!) by public bus? Once I'm in Mexico, I have no problem figuring out the bus system. It's the USA side that baffles me!
: Thanks
