My husband and I are visiting the city of Oaxaca in about three weeks. Can anyone recommend an economical hotel ($30/day or under) in Oaxaca within walking distance of the Zocalo? Also, what are some "must sees" in the city and surrounding villages. Thanks.

Canadian owned, they are close to the Zocalo and for more info about sites to see (as my wife and I drove there from SA, TX)let us know by e-mail if you are still interested.

I stayed at Gala Hotel, one block south of square, several years ago. Modest price, clean. Since then, I have also stayed at the hotel right on the square, Marques del Valle? I liked being in the center of things, but it may be too expensive for your tastes. If I go to Oaxaca again, I would like to try Las Golindrinas, several blocks north of the center. I have walked through their gardens: charming, well priced rooms.<p>DAN
