Gulf coast highway condition

I came down the Gulf coast highway a couple of weeks ago and thought I'd give y'all a report on the road condition. There were areas where a lot of work has been done and it is much improved. However, the rest of it has actually degraded a LOT further in the last 3 years from the first time I came down it. I was in a heavy duty 1 ton vehicle and was afraid it wasn't going to survive. Thank goodness I have 10 ply tires.

The good news is....the road is being actively repaired. LOL...the bad news is...they are working on the road.

One thing to be on the watch for if you take this route. Just before getting to the bypass around Veracruz I had a really bad experience with some unusually aggressive window cleaners. I was told this isn't the first time they have acted like this with Gringos. I told them no and they were really rude and aggressive and demanding 'money'. Seems like it was in or near Antigua. It was bad enough that I got pretty rattled and thought I might have to defend myself. For those of you that aren't familiar with window washers at stop lights....this is VERY unusual behavior.

This sounds like the intersection in Cardel and there is no way to avoid this intersection. Window washers, food vendors, beggars, et al. I swear that there would be vendors of furniture if the road was wide enough for their wares.
