Getting to Saltillo from Monterrey

Can't Post |
My company is sending me to Saltillo for a one-day business trip.
I decided to fly in a couple of days early and make a mini-vacation out of the trip, but I値l need to find my own way from the Airport in Monterrey to the hotel (Holiday Inn) in Saltillo.
Is a taxi the best/cheapest way to do this, or are there transport companies also?

one hour drive Monterrey airport to Holiday Inn Saltillo

If you are connecting thru Mexico City, you can fly directly into Saltillo airport, very close to Saltillo Holiday Inn. It'll beworth the time and expense.
You can go from Monterrey airport to Monterrey bus station ("La Central" in spanish) and from there for about 10.00 U.S. there are buses leaving ever few minutes to Saltillo. Most of them pass the Holiday Inn, which is on the main hwy a few miles before Saltillo proper, and they could drop you off right there. Or rent a car in Monterrey...its a toll road all the way, you don't have to enter either city since both locales are on the outskirts. Or call the Holiday in Saltillo and ask them if you can pay for their airport van to pick you up in Monterrey, chance are they'll go for it since they normally use it for Saltillo airport.
My company is sending me to Saltillo for a one-day business trip.

TAXI FM MONTEREY AIRPORT TO SALTILLO CAN BE EXPENSIVE

: : I am not familar with any transport companies operating Monterrey airport to Saltillo. There is a Marriott Courtyard hotel and a Hampton Inn located right next to the Monterrey airport. Suggest you call them direct and ask about local transport companies or estimated taxi fees to Saltillo...they can tell you.

That is a very long way for a taxi .. !!!!
Bus is OK . But a little tough to make the times work sometimes if you have limited schedule coming from US.
You can also rent a car at Monterrey airport. The drive to Saltillo is pretty smooth. No danger.

Driving from the Monterrey airport to Saltillo

Can't Post |
If you rent a car, especially if your company is paying for it, I would recommend taking the periferico cuota bypass, which crosses route 54 close to the airport, around the northern part of Monterrey to route 40, which goes to Saltillo. It might cost you ten to fifteen dollars in tolls, but it is well worth it to escape the heavy traffic and crazy drivers of Monterrey!
: That is a very long way for a taxi .. !!!!
: Bus is OK . I believe the best way is to fly directly to Saltillo.
But if you must fly to Monterrey 1st. I suggest that when you get thru customs. Go to an exchange house or gift shop to get some pesos. - then go outside and get a taxi for no more than 10 dollars to go to "La Central de Camiones" - Bus Terminal. Then Grab a bus ticket to Saltillo that should cost around 5-7 us dollars. 1 hour and half trip. and you can take another taxi to your hotel wich is close-by. 2-3 dollars.

Getting to Saltillo from Monterrey

Can't Post |
No problem. Ignore the other ideas that have been posted here -- they will lead you astray. Flights or car rentals with complicated driving instructions?? Ha! Here's the easy way for you to do exactly what you want, amigo:
1. You're arriving in the Monterrey airport. As you exit the glass doors from customs, there are several booths along the wall on your right. These kiosk booths sell prepaid taxi tickets anywhere in the Monterrey area. Take a taxi to the bus station (Central de Autobuses). The cost will be about 160 pesos and the ride is about 25 painless and stress-free minutes.
2. You're in the Central de Autobuses. It's big and busy. Where do you go? Well, *SEVERAL* bus lines run hourly first-class buses to Saltillo. Easy way: walk up to the Omnibus de Mexico counter and ask for a ticket to Saltillo. O de M runs buses at least hourly -- even in the wee hours of the morning. It doesn't matter what time you get to the bus station, a bus is leaving for Saltillo in a few minutes!
You don't have to use O de M. Other companies are just as good. I love the Turistar Ejecutivo buses, but there are only a handful each day between Monterrey and Saltillo and the cost is 67 pesos (I rode this bus yesterday, and that's what I paid). A more convenient choice is to pick one of the lines with hourly first-class service: Omnibus de Mexico is reliable but I think the Futura buses run by Estrella Blanca are even more comfy. Both are 48 pesos one way (about $5).
3. You arrive in Saltillo. Take a taxi to the Holiday Inn (I assume you mean the Eurotel and not the location in Ramos Arizpe). I don't like Saltillo taxis. They never have meters and some taxistas like to try to rip off gringo tourists. The "usual" fare from the Central de Autobuses to the Holiday Inn Eurotel is 50 pesos. It's about 5 miles.
If you know what you're doing, you can get off the bus just as you enter Saltillo. A Mexican traveler would usually do this, a gringo probably won't want to.
Have fun!
