From Brownsville to Veracruz/Xalapa

Can't Post |
Hi,
Im actually mexican but its the first time that me and my american friend are actually driving from the US to Veracruz. The thing is that my american friend wants to take a lot of stuff because she plans on staying for six months. One of those things includes a computer... She bought it about 4 months ago but Ive heard that you cant take used computers... Does anyone have any experience on that?
Also, does anyone know from experience which is the best way to go from Brownsville to Veracruz?
What about the "retenes" or check points in the Mexican highways, are they safe? of do cops try to mess u up?
I went from Veracruz to Matamoros/Brownsville by bus so I missed all of this.. I was safe...
I dont know about driving though, I must say I'm quite scared...
Help plz!

Look at the Los Indios free trade bridge a few miles east of Brownsville for a genteler kinder boarder cross. There will be another check about 30 miles in. You could be checked again on the road.
Figure 2 days to Veracruz. First day if you can get to the other side of Tampico you are doing good. Tampico is a trafic drag so try to get over the bridge and stay the night.
The computer is risky. They let in lap tops but desk tops are a flip of the coin.
