Floods - Fast and Strong - Be Smart - Be Safe

OK a Little Lesson in intelligence during a flood.

You should not use the del Rio crossing for at least another week or more. Water has risen up to the tops of the Customs and immigration booths. Think for a minute of all the computers in these booths and the main severs underwater. Think they waterproofed your information on them?

There will be a severe shortage of overnight lodging and places to eat or buy food. . . . . why ? Is all underwater and it will take time to get new mattresses and food shipped in. Unless of course you do not mind sleeping on a air dried mattress.

Gasoline . . . . .Oh yes . . Gasoline in underground tanks! Do you really think that there won't be water in those underground tanks in Mexico or even Texas for that matter? Plan your fuel stops well! Get all you can hold and a few containers more before you hit the flooded areas. hen make sure that you have enough to carry you well across any flooded area to what would have been untouched by flooding dry land. Maybe you just like water in your gas.

Check your car insurance. . . . . does it include flood insurance and is it replacement value insurance? Bring a lot of mosquito lotion with high Deet (24% and more if you can get it rating. DEET is one of two ingredients in mosquito repellent that the CDC recommends for preventing mosquito-borne diseases. The other is Picaridin, and the CDC believes these two ingredients are more effective than other mosquito repellents. There will be millions of new squadrons of the little buggers! Do you all know what Dengue Fever is? It is alive and well in central and Northern Mexico. Get your shots if you do not have them already. Dengue Fever is an ugly thing to get. It was a gift to me in Viet Nam once. Never again!

Just a few tips to make your flood experience a little more bearable during travel. . . . . I hope! Ride safe and be smart.
