FMT Car Permit needs to Fly Back (Temporary)
|
Can't Post |

Hi Stan,
The short answer is No, she will not have a problem leaving the country. The airline will collect her FMT as she checks in for her flight. They will not know or care that she has a car permit. But that might not be the end of the story.
When she returns, she will get a new FMT, but her car is “tied’ to the old FMT that she must turn in as she leaves. There is an extreamly small chance that there might come a time when a cop wants to compare her permit with her FMT. For that remote possibility, she should make a Xerox copy of the original FMT and keep her plane ticket receipt and boarding pass stubs, so she will be able to explain why she no longer has the original FMT. Her new FMT that she will get on the return flight will have no ties with her car permit.
This question has come up on the forum before. People have reported trying to persuade the airline ticket clerk that they cannot surrender their FMT because… These pleas don’t work because the airlines are bound by the immigration authorities to collect the FMT.
I have never heard of this turning into a problem.
