FMT Car Permit needs to Fly Back (Temporary)

Can't Post |
My wife entered Mexico with an FMT and got a car permit at the border. An emergency has arisen and she has to fly back to the states and stay for a couple of weeks. After that she will return to Mexico with plenty of time to drive to the border and return the car permit.
Question: Will she have any problem leaving the country without the car ?
Stan

Hi Stan,
The short answer is No, she will not have a problem leaving the country. The airline will collect her FMT as she checks in for her flight. They will not know or care that she has a car permit. But that might not be the end of the story.
When she returns, she will get a new FMT, but her car is “tied’ to the old FMT that she must turn in as she leaves. There is an extreamly small chance that there might come a time when a cop wants to compare her permit with her FMT. For that remote possibility, she should make a Xerox copy of the original FMT and keep her plane ticket receipt and boarding pass stubs, so she will be able to explain why she no longer has the original FMT. Her new FMT that she will get on the return flight will have no ties with her car permit.
This question has come up on the forum before. People have reported trying to persuade the airline ticket clerk that they cannot surrender their FMT because… These pleas don’t work because the airlines are bound by the immigration authorities to collect the FMT.
I have never heard of this turning into a problem.

Not to worry. I did it a couple of months ago and there was NO problem. My FMT said nothing about having a car (I think). Not to worry. they really only want the car out when it is suppose to be out,I think. When I returned my FMT at the customs place on my way out with the car there were two windows. One for the car and one for the FMT. Neither one cared about the other. I think you should not worry about it again. Just return your stuff normaly when you leave with the car. Retufrn the FMT first, although I would bet big money that it would not matter either way.
Now that was long winded to try to say there is nothing to worry about.

I think I like the way a friend of mine did it better.
She went to the local migracion office and explained her situation. The officer examined her documents and then issued her a "transmigrante" permit which she paid for at the bank. She turned in the transmigrante form to the airline, retained the original FMT which meant that she possesed the correct matching document to the car permit.
