Evaluating Insurance Carriers

How do I evaluate the Mexican Insurance carriers? I am not looking for the cheapest coverage. I will be traveling with children and want the highest possible level of dependability. We will be down in the highlands a bit over 1 year.<p>

We will be there a little over 1 year. I am aware of the basic regulations but unable to determine which companies would truly be of assistance in the event of a problem.

If you plan to stay for an extended time, more than 30 days, I would recommend Seguros Comercial America. I shopped around at the border, could not find a better deal. However, for short-term trips, something else might be better.

Insured 95 Chrysler minivan last fall. Used
Sanborns.Valued vehicle at $4000 with $50000
liability.Underwritten by GE Seguros. Price for
6 months 'all Mexico'coverage was quoted as
$200 from their head office. Laredo office of
company insisted I had to join their 'Sombrero
Club' to get that rate (another $25). Deductable
was $1000 for total theft and $500 for collision
damage to my vehicle.
