Eastern Michoacan-Zitacuaro/Maravatio-safety

Hello all,
I would love to get a take from the Michoacan residents on this board on the general safety of eastern Michoacan in these days. I know the coast is a mess right now, and I have a friend in Guadalajara that is doing some scouting for me in the region as well. I am looking at residing in a rural village near Maravatio for a month and a half this summer.

I have heard that Zitacuaro is now a center for La Familia, but I have not heard major reports of violence, extortion or kidnapping near Maravatio. Any input you all have is appreciated. Thanks!

Caarina

Search Michoacán online periodicals. I just did this for thr relatively independent http://quadratin.com.mx and found several recent articles on Zitácuaro.

Buen viaje.

Thanks so much Anonimo for the link! I've been looking through the articles on Maravatio and things look rather heated in eastern Michoacan in general. I'll wait for the report from my friend, but I will be looking at alternative places in Veracruz as a backup.
