Driving to Zihuatenejo/Ixtapa from Ajijic

Hi. Did a search on this, but nothing new. I will be driving to Zihuatenejo/Ixtapa from Ajijic in Dec. I was planning to take Hwy 54D to coastal Hwy 200. Are the hwys maintained? Is 200 a toll hwy yet? Thanks

Addition: I did some reading on other posts and it seems that Coastal Hwy 200 is a winding , dropoff laden road. Would taking HWY 15E (not 15D) to Zacupa, then down HWY37 to Playa Azul and take HWY 200 the rest of the way be better?
