Wow.... OK, Just make sure you rent in the USA, and get a 4x4 jeep or pick-up truck, cuz you will need it.
Bring or buy some basic camping gear, there are not that many hotels in remote Baja, but there are many areas that are still 'safe' to camp.
The coast down to Ensenada is a 'Gold Coast', one of my favorite parts of Mexico with a southern California like climate. Below the Checkpoint at Mananedero the road turns inland some, but returns to the coast at San Quintin, from there the road turns inland and climbs into the Bojum Tree zone of almost prehistoric rocks and plants, it is very interesting! If you camp be aware of rattlesnakes habitats. Travel below Guerrero Negro will take a few days of desert travel, but the Bahia de Conception is still unspoilt and beautiful. La Paz is my favorite City in the lower Baja, but is about 1100 miles from TJ. A drive up the 10,000 foot Pedro Martir Mt. into the pines is a trip worth taking. Or up to Lake Hanson. Or how about the Hot Springs over at Canyon de las palmas......Cave Paintings... etc. etc.
