Driving Texas to Oaxaca

Any advice would be appreciated, i.e. Laredo or McAllen?, avoid D.F. or pass through it?, also, will it be difficult or impossible to find accomondations that will accept pets along the way? we will be travelling with two medium size dogs. Any estimations on hours betwen cities? I'm thinking our route will be: Laredo, Monterrey, Saltillo, San Luis Potosi, Queretaro, D.F.-- then either Acapulco to Puerto Escondio, or Puebla to Oaxaca to P.E. PLEASE, any advice would be appreciated.. Thanks in advance.

The PEMEX motel took out large dog

It was just outside Zacatecas. It was clean and cheap with secure parking and lots of truckers around. Another hotel did not take her and she slept in the car. I think if I spoke Spanish I could have talked them into it. Holiday Inn Guanajuato had a no pets policy but Loba slept in our car in basement parking that was cool and secure.
Overall we had more trouble finding rentals that took kids than the dog.

It is always a hassle to find a motel or hotel that accepts dogs. However, we have always found a place. We talked the Holiday Inn in Ciudad Victoria into accepting our 25 pound Cockapoo. Another Holiday Inn in Ciudad del Carmen wouldn't take the dog but at my wife's request found us a hotel that would and had us follow the bell boy in the hotel van to the motel. On our last trip back from Cancun I called hotels before we left and made reservations for every night. This is the best approach but time consuming to find lists of hotels with phone numbers. I used the internet to find the hotels.

On the return trip, there is a Periferico around Monterrey that is great. You can also pass up SLP and Queretaro. The easy way around DF is the Periferico - try to hit it early weekend morning. Traffic into the city is heavy Sundays because people are returning home from Cuernavaca, Queretaro, etc. for the work week. The exit from Perferico South to Oaxaca is EJE 8 Ermita Ixtapalapa to Puebla.
