Driving Queretaro to Puebla

Hola, Can I drive from Queretaro to Puebla using Couta(toll) roads and the newly opened Arco Norte to bypass Mexico City and the State of Mexico's laws for driving during certain hours for foreign plated cars? Thanks in advance, Rick

The short answer is YES.

See Hound Dog's recent post at: http://www.mexconnect.com/...arco%20norte;#138668

I would have to disagree with Dawg on it being "clearly marked". I forgot to get an exact KM marker as I usually do but it's about 50km south of the caseta cobra where 57 becomes a cuota. Unlike nearly every other exit that was marked by a large overhead sign with multiple advance notices, the Arco Norte (I never saw any reference anywhere to "Arco Norte"), the sign was a small one line green sign on the righthand side of the road about 100 meters in advance. The ramp begins just before the bridge and curls back. In fact, we missed it but braked hard and took an unofficial dirt road between the shoulder and the ramp just after the bridge, which had apparently been carved out by the thousands of others who found it not so clearly marked.

The starting caseta is unmanned and you drive up and take a plastic card that is dispensed which then is scanned when you exit to determine your toll based on how far you went. This seemed to confuse some as when we came up the ramp there were several cars stopped short trying to figure out what to do, then when we pulled up and took our card they all followed.

There are no services on the road at least as far as the Teotihuacan exit so get gassed up beforehand.

Just for the record, there is a large overhead sign which I had no problem spotting that reads "Puebla Cuota" but I remember no reference to the term "Arco Norte" . That new toll plaza which is unmanned and at which one takes a ticket that tells toll takers at the various exits where one entered the freeway is confusing. Actually, the day we drove the new road they had a guy manning that post who pushed the button for us and handed us the ticket.

I guess I missed the overhead Puebla sign, probably engaged in a Mexican style passing maneuver. ;-) And since Puebla was on your itinerary you snapped right to it whereas Puebla was not on mine so it got filtered out until a little voice whispered "hey man, there is only one cuota crossing 57 in this stretch". In any event, I'm sure any readers of this topic will know what to look for and will find it just fine.
