Could someone give me an idea of the fastest route that would have good roads (pref. toll roads)and would also be the relatively safe.
I can not cross by boat to the baja as we will have animals with us. Thanks.

Only one route really, that is Mex #15, Cuota all the way to Nogales. Then across Arizona and California on US8 to Tecate - Recross and take the back way into Ensenada.
Long trip, but way better that the ferry IMHO!
Pernel

Because we have animals and desktop computers we can not go through the US and the re-entry problems could be horrendous.
I don't want to take the ferry so I need a complete route in Mexico. Can't take the animals on the ferry. Any help would be appreciated.

In Santa Ana the highway splits. 15 goes north to Nogales and Mexico 2 heads west to Tijuana. You would take 2 which is a two lane highway but a good one all the way to Mexicali where you have the option of once more getting on the cuota. Take the cuota to Tecate and then take Highway 3 south to Ensenada. The roads are good and heavily travelled so you should have no problems.

Before you hit Nogales, you will get to Santana.
Here you can get the road to Mexicali. This is a two lane road to Caborca-Sonoyta-San Luis Rio Colorado-Mexicali. Mexicali to Tecate is a cuota
road (4 lanes).
It would be better if you stop in Santana or Caborca and spend the night there because next day you will cross the Sonoran Desert. You will be better off leaving EARLY in the morning.
There are several military and PGR post on this road. Drive slow. It takes 6 to 7 hrs to Mexicali.
Saludos,
Juan

minor detail : La Rumarosa

Can't Post |
One has to take the Cuota thru La Rumarosa,( if there is a side road you wouldn't want to take it!) its only 11 pesos. After that one can choose the Libre to Tecate. I take the Libre, it very nerly parallels the Cuota.

Your going to need Mexican car insurance. Your insurance company will give you very detail instructions on how to get to anyplace in Mexico.
Anthony
: Because we have animals and desktop computers we can not go through the US and the re-entry problems could be horrendous.
: I don't want to take the ferry so I need a complete route in Mexico.
