Does original of car permit stay in vehicle

or will copies suffice for Mexican authorities (police)? Same question regarding car insurance papers, are copies ok or not? One more thing, when one is traveling throughout the country should one carry FM3 or not?
Many thanks in advance....

I think the rule is to carry the originals. I usually don’t. When I am in my town, I carry copies of everything -- car permit, insurance, FM3. But when I travel away from home, I take the originals as well as the copies. <p>For my convenience, I leave the copies in my truck all the time. I keep the originals at home for safety. I have been stopped by traffic cops twice and never asked for any papers.

If your car is stolen, you will need the original permit paper, so don’t leave it in the car.
