Just a question about border crossing in Tijuana: do I have to have my FM3 stamped by INM while exiting Mexico?

The rules say Yes. Get it stamped and fill out a little form when you exit the country, and return the carbon of the form and get stamped when you return. I once forgot to do that when I flew out, and no said anything when I came back. I have never driven out and back, so I don't know if there is much of a check.<p>

Have flown out three times and always had to show FM3 and get it stamped, but never showed it when driving out.
Upon return driving last Fall we were stopped at 26 km Aduanas. They asked to see FM3s but did not question us about not being stamped and also had no problem with the fact that our car permit is now 3 years old. Sure would be nice to get something definitive on this. We have never renewed car permit.<p>
