: : Any thoughts on this? My front license plate was stolen in Mexico City. I'm taking the car back to the States on vacation for a smog check, a bit of repair stuff, etc. I made a report to the Notario Publico here and got it certified. My plan is to cross the border, say at Mexicali, and head immediately to a DMV office to get new plates.
: : Does that found logical? As long as I've got the back plate, with the registration tags, I think they'll allow me past the border.
: : My thinking: To replace both plates, I'd have had to send them back to California and have the replacements then shipped back to me. That would entail filing some sort of documentation with Migracion-Banjercito, etc., about the new plates. A long bureaucratic process, at any rate.
: : Even if the folks won't let my car cross the border, I'd be close enough to a DMV office that I could handle the re-plating fairly quickly.
: : I think. I hope.
: : Cheers
: : I drive form San Diego to Mazatlan about 6 times a year and have never had a front license plate on my truck. I've never been questioned or stopped so I don't think you will have any problems as long as you have the rear plate.
