Copper Festival at Lake Patzcuaro

Can't Post | Private Reply
The Copper Festival begins this week end, August 6 through 17, in Santa Clara de Cobre, in the colonial highlands of Michoacan. The concurso, or judging, is August 13, Saturday afternoon, mas o menos, at the Copper Museum. Bring camera!
If you are coming from Morelia, take the bypass, before Patzcuaro, towards Uruapan. In a few miles, notice the exit for Santa Clara/Opopeo to the left, not Patzcuaro to the right. When returning, go straight through the intersection to the Puelbo Magico, the magical village of Patzcuaro. Eat and spend the night, since off-season hotel rates are a genuine bargain.
If you are coming from Uruapan, exit at Lake Zirahuen and take that cute back road, around the high mountain lake, to Santa Clara. Beware! The pure, crystal blue water of Lake Z might dazzle you into forgetting everything you had planned.
Saludos de Patzcuaro mágico, David

David:

Sorry to possibly contradict what you have stated but one of the articles in the news seemed to indicate that the concurso results will be announced on the last day of the Feria, 8/17:

Thanks! I appreciate the correction. Yes, "El 17 de Agosto, se realizará la premiación del LXVI Concurso de Cobre Martillado," or, the Concurso is Wednesday, August 17, the last day of the Festival.
Is the Hotel Camino Real still serving delicious comidas, a block or so from the main plaza in Santa Clara? Besides the market, where else do I eat?

We have never had much luck eating in Santa Clara del Cobre and our local contact admits to a lack of decent food in the town. We have made plans to visit:

Hi Neil and David,

We have had simple food in Santa Clara (breakfast, quesadillas), but don't know of a good restaurant there. I always think of Miralago as being in Zirahuén, however of course it is convenient to Santa Clara as well. The setting is marvelous, and the last time we ate there--some time ago--the food was good as well. I think you'll enjoy it.

Our contact in Santa Clara del Cobre happens to live near the lake and wanted to show me their place. It seemed logical to try this restaurant (first time for me) and do the visit to their house. Every time we have tried one of the sit down style restaurants, the offerings have been somewhat marginal. A couple of times, we have gone so far as to drive back to Patzcuaro for a meal before heading back to Santa Clara.
