Chicago, IL to Mexico City by bus?

I want to travel to Mexico City but it seems that I'm not able to find a direct connection. So I wanted to go to McAllen, TX because I've heard that they have a huge bus station there and that many Mexican Bus companies have offices there as well.
Does anyone know if that is so? Or even better, is there a direct connection (by bus) from Chicago to Mexico City?
Another question: Is there a chaeper alternative to Geryhound (for getting around the US)<p>Thanks for any answere.
