Car Permit

Can't Post | Private Reply
Hi,

I am heading down to Mexico and applied online to get a car permit through banjercito. I had planned on going through Matamoros, however I have read lately that there is some turmoil. I want to change my entrance city, does anyone know how I would go about doing this?

Any help would be great, Thanks.

I too recently got my car permit online. When I crossed (in Piedras Negras) no one even looked at my car permit. The 'agent' at immigrations did ask if I was driving a US car but when I told him (and actually flashed the paperwork at him) that I already had my permit from online, he said OK.

There may be some reason they ask and print your intended border crossing on the online permit paperwork, but I don't know why they would care or maybe why they would hastle you if you changed.... they surely don't care where you cross back out.

YMMV

I always cross at Laredo #2 and they don't even look at your sticker or ask until the 20 mile Aduana station and then it's just a glance. In fact, the way Laredo is laid out you go through Customs before you even go to the building a mile away to get your permit.

Just to confirm Stevebrtx´s comments re: Customs and Immigration in Mexico beyond Bridge #2 at Laredo. We drove through the Immigration check last week and the gentlemen took one look at the cover of my passport with my Visa tucked inside and waved us on without looking at anything. At Customs, same kind of thing (even less of a check).

I agree with the advice above, i.e., that you needn´t do anything in order to change the choice of crossing point.
