Hi, I have just returned to Mexico towing my trailer. I agree with Rolly, but I would add that you should take care to make sure that you trailer has a VIN number. You did not specify if it is a homemade trailer or not. That is a requirement as they copy with a hand held computer both the VIN of the tow vehicle and the trailer. Both VIN's are added to the permit. Also make sure your trailer is included on your Mexican insurance. It is very cheap (mine was $20 more) If you do have an accident involving your trailer and not the tow vehicle, and you do not have MEX insurance for your trailer as well as your tow vehicle, your visit to Mexico may be longer than you think or are prepared for. Another tip: Make absolutely sure that all your trailer lights are in good working order. Bring a couple of spare lights or bulbs if you can, as this is a favorite of the Transito to try to get some "mordida". I had to replace a sealed rear taillight assembly this time and was very thankful I had bought a spare right and left unit to use. I caught it before the Transito did. You can expect many more check points (as I did) this time than normal. I was stopped at everyone (a total of 7 or 8) between Matamoros and Tampico, Tamaulipas. Almost all were combined Federal Police and Military. A couple were only military. Never any problems only questions and answers. Only twice asked to open the cargo trailer of a simple visual inspection. Have a good and safe trip. Robt65 (A Fellow Viet Nam Vet)
