Can One Day Trip from GDL to the Pacific?

We're in GDL for a couple of days before going to the family ranch in Michoacan. I'd love to see the sea. Can we go via cuota early in the morning, rent an umbrella (somewhere?) and head back later? How many hours drive am I looking at-- and what city?

I'd prefer shortest drive to a public beach. . . Got a van-ful, including kids.

Any suggestions? Manzanillo? PV? Is the beach day trip an american thing-- ie are my relatives gona think I'm nuts?

About 4 to 4.5 hours to Colima beaches and the only quota route. Most would head to Manzanillo but there are a few beaches out of Tecoman that would save a 1/2 hour. Most of Colima beaches are black sand except for Manzanillo. They also tend to be open ocean and not good for swimming

Maybe just rent a table in a beach palapa and eat and drink there. Much better to do an overnight and maybe head north to Melaque. Lot of driving for one day no matter where you go
