Anyone ever been to Playa Azul?

Can't Post |
I'm planning on going on a December trip, passing through Tonala (Guadalajara), Paracho/Uruapan, and eventually to the Pacific Coast. I've been to Melaque, Jalisco and had a GREAT time. Since I am headed south to Paracho and Uruapan, I'm thinking of taking the highway (Mexico 37) to the coast at Playa Azul, Michoacan.
Can anyone tell me about their experiences in Playa Azul? There's not a whole lot in print or on the net about Playa Azul. I'm wondering about hotels, the beach, and anything else about of note about the town/area.
Thanks for any help!

The new road gets you from Uruapan to Ixtapa in under three hours. Also much better beach, hotels, waves.
: I'm planning on going on a December trip, passing through Tonala (Guadalajara), Paracho/Uruapan, and eventually to the Pacific Coast. Playa Azul is a very small beach town. Ixtapa is about 30 to 45 minutes away and is much more developed for international tourism. Playa is 90% national tourism. There are hotels in town but none on the beach. Hotel Playa Azul is where we stayed. One short block from beach.
We ate at the beach palapa restaurants and enjoyed the fish.
You could go ways down the road and stay in Villa Dorada. They have bugalows,a very large pool and a restaurant on site. Very low keyed-like having your own beach and pool. Villa Dorada is located in Calabasas. The hotel has directional signs to guide you from Playa Azul.
Have fun!
: The new road gets you from Uruapan to Ixtapa in under three hours.
