A $17 Bed and Breakfast - Between Guadalajara and Tepic

Vicky and I were out searching for new places to show our tourists. We were checking out an area just off the highway between Tepic or Puerto Vallarta, depending on where you are coming or going, and Guadalajara and we were a little tired and decided to lay over. We went into th pueblo of Ahuacatlan, which is just a little ways westerly of Ixtlan del Rio.
As we entered town along the main street, 20 de Noviembre, we noted three hotels. We checked out one, passed and then went to hotel Quinta del Real. A nice lobby, a little courtyard and off street parking. The room was not large but neat and clean and nice decor. The price $170 pesos. We took it of course. Later I noticed a sign that said B&B and English Spoken. Imagine my surprise when the clerk told me that it was a bed and breakfast and the price of $170 included a breakfast. I am most interested in B&B`s because we have one in Rincon de Guayabitos.
We had a quiet evening, visted the beautiful town square and did a little shopping. Next morning, we were offered breakfast in our room or in the Patio. We chose the patio We were visited by the owner Sr. Andres Montero Flores. Sr. Montero spoke excellent english and proceeded to tell us about his B&B and that he was also director of the local museum. Vicky and I are very interested in history and ancient cultures. He had a number of artifacts scattered in his patio, which he claimed were found on or near the hotel. He had a large notebook full of photos of different artifacts that existed nearby and dating back to 800 A.D., as well as town photos dating to the turn of the century. He gave us a great history lesson up to the present. During this time Senora Montero served a delicious breakfast. Eggs, bacon, toast, coffee, yogurt and fresh orange juice.
Even if you had planned to travel through, don`t miss this little jewel.
Bob robertohowell@hotmail.com
