expired car permit?

Friends,
We're looking for information about staying a few more days than our car permit allows. Someone they gave us the customary 180 days which allows us to stay until mid January, but the car permit says Jan. 2. We'd like to stay a few more days. Can we do this?

The car permit is tied to your FMT. If you were already given the customary 180 days, you’ve been given the max. It’s not extendable beyond that term. If you do not have 180 days on your FMT, you may apply at INAMI for an extension, but still the total time cannot exceed 180 days. Your alternative may be to apply for an FM-3.
