My mail? Messages?

I find it really confusing that there is a MY MAIL and an icon for MESSAGES. At first I didn't notice the MESSAGES icon, and was going nuts because when I clicked on mail, it was showing my completely different stuff then when I clicked on a message notice that comes to my outside mail box. Why two? Wouldn't one place for all messages have made more sense, and what is it that the mailbox is for, if my messages go to the message place instead of the mailbox. HELP!

Messages are for private communication between Mexconnect subscribers. My Mail is e-mail, which may be sent to and received from anyone on the planet who has an e-mail address.
