Mex Connect subscription only ?

That's sure what it looks like on the list of what will be available. That is going to be very hard on the casual traveler wanting information. The input on forums will drop to almost nothing. Hmmm .. guess we'll see what happens.

I think the forum traffic will slow to a trickle. The "questioners" won't really want to pay for something unseen and the "answerers" don't really need it. Maybe become an exclusive club-like place to gather for a few.

$.08 a day and no Banner Ads........

........as a regular here, I find that very tempting just to eliminate the irratation of those damned things.

You're absolutely right about the casual or first time visitor. If it is going to cost someone $5.00 just to take a peek, growth here will be dead in the water. Most people today are reluctant to register even when it's free. David had best offer at least a 30 free trial period and a decent orientation forum for people to learn all that is available here and get hooked.

365 days for $30.00 works out to about $.08 a day. With all of the features of Mexconnect and a decent e-mail feature, that's a Hell of a deal. Getting new people to realize that is going to be almost impossible without a free trial.

Another Thought

If we all become subscribers and have financial investment here, do we all get to vote on the moderators?

I know it's not much to pay but I'm concerned about the drop off in partisipation and/or growth. There are so many other Mexican message boards for people to ask questions on. I hope David is ready to re-think levels of access; read only, trial period, ??? Is there a model that shows this might work.

Often what comes up on a search engine is the message base ... what happens when you follow a link to headers only.

"Chat room with experts" - don't know about anyone else but Chat Rooms are too hectic and hard to follow. Is there a different format planned here.

I still think ALL the moderators do a great job. I certainly can't recommend anyone that could do a better job - especially for free.

I've seen several other web sites change from free to subscription, then to fade into oblivion. I hope this will not be the case for Mexconnect. However, I can't see hordes of people willing to pay for ongoing access, even if the site is worthwhile. Seems to me that trying to increase advertising revenue and cut back on services that people don't need from Mexconnect--e.g. e-mail (which we all have or can get from other sources) would be preferable.

The price of $.08/day sounds negligible but I'm not in Mexico yet. I want to stay connected and will pay the $30. I want to correspond with people who are there but when I do get there I won't have the same incentive. While I enjoy talking to people who also want to move there, if I thought only people living away from Mexico would be responders, I'd be less inclined to continue this, especially if it was by subscription.
