temorary resident and keeping car

I am renewing my fm3 before the end of this month ...it will now be called resident temporary...I have my car under my fm3...I will renew resident temporary for the next 3 years...will I be o.k. to continue driving my car with the vehicle sticker I got at the border under my fm3???

Yes.

Have you notified Aduana (in writing) every year when you renewed your INM permit? You provide a letter to Aduana every year, notifying them of your renewal of your FM3, submitted before your Aduana car permit expires - to notify Aduana to extend your car permit by a year. The Residente Temporal processing is often taking more than a week, so you need to send Aduana a copy of your INM comprabante that proves you have either an application pending or better still the comprabante that proves you have been approved by INM and that you have paid.

THANKS/I DID NOT SEND THE LETTER...AT ONE OF THE AMERICAN COUNSEL MEETINGS HERE IN PUERTO VALLARTA/THEY HAD SOME ADUANA OFFICIALS IN / IT WAS SAID IF WE DID NOT CARE ABOUT LOOSING THE 400 DLS DEPOSIT IT WAS O.K.NOT TO SEND THE LETTER... WE COULD KEEP THE CAR WITH THE ORIGINAL STICKER AS LONG AS WE RE-NEW OUR IMMIGRATION/FM-3...
THE COST OF MAILING THE LETTER WAS AROUND 50 DLS TO GUADALIJARA AND THEN DID NOT KNOW IF THAT WAS REALLY THE CORRECT MAILING ADDRESS/ADUANA LATER SAID THAT IT NEEDED TO GO TO MEXICO CITY WITHIN 10 OR 15 DAYS/EVERYTHING ABOUT THE MAILING WAS VERBAL BY ADUANA AS TO HOW MANY DAYS BEFORE OR AFTER TO SEND IT...SOUNDED LIKE A LOOPHOLE TO ME AND I FELT I WOULD NOT GET A REFUND AT THE BORDER ANYWAY IF I EVER NEEDED TO TAKE IT BACK.... DID NOT KNOW FOR SURE THAT IT WOULD BE RECORDED PROPERLY/THEY WOULD NOT BE SENDING BACK CONFIRMATION/OR LETTING ME CHECK IT ON THE INTERNET....SO I FIGURED IT BEST TO FORFEIT THE 400 DLS AND NOT WORRY WITH THE LETTER FROM YEAR TO YEAR...I AM ABOUT TO RENEW MY IMMIGRATION THE END OF THIS MONTH...SHOULD I SEND A LETTER THIS TIME????THIS MIGHT BE MY SECOND RENEWAL SINCE I GOT THE STICKER...OR DO I JUST CARRY MY IMMIGRATION RENEWAL IN THE VEHICLE AND SHOW IT AS I ALWAYS HAVE THAT THE STICKER GOES ALONG WITH MY RESIDENT TEMPORARY .???
I KNOW THIS IS HARD TO ANSWER SINCE THE RULE IN WRITING SAYS TO SUBMIT A LETTER BUT AGAIN AS I SAID AT THE MEETING IT WAS TOLD WE COULD JUST LOSE THE 4OODLS AND IT WOULD BE O.K. TO KEEP THE CAR HERE AS LONG AS WE RENEWED THE IMMIGRATION..

As happens with government officials, they often (unintentionally) tell only part of the story, leaving out important bits.

Since June 2010, the Aduana rules say we must notify Aduana in writing of renewals of our INM permits and of any changes in INM permit type. Aduana has only enforced this rule part of the time. They generally do not enforce it, but they can use our non-compliance with the annyual notification rule to deny us things like permanently importing a car at a sea port.

I would send in a letter to the Aduana DF office:
Administración General de Aduanas
Administración Central de Operación Aduanera
Administración de Operación Aduanera “3”
Av. Hidalgo No. 77, Módulo IV, 1° piso, Del. Cuauhtémoc
Col. Guerrero, C.P. 06300, México D.F.

Example Letter Notifying Aduana of changes-in or renewals-to your INM Visa

Hi trish,

As a follow-on to tie up loose ends, Which do we trust more? Do we trust local INM agent's verbal opinions, or do we trust the published law?

Consider:
For vehicles registered after June 11, 2011, Aduana regal 4.2.7 states
“A efecto de que no se haga efectiva la garantia otorgada en los terminus de la presente regal, dentro de los 15 dias siguientes a aquél en que les hubiere sido otorgada la prórroga, ampliación, refrendo o cambio de calidad migratorio, se deberá presenter mediante escritor antes cualquier aduana del pais o a la ACOA, un aviso en el que se haga constar dicha circunstancia, anexando copia del comprobante de dicho trámite y del permiso de importación del vehiculo”

Crude English translation:

“In order to guarantee that this regal does not terminate your temporary import permit,

then within 15 days after the date on which your (previous INM permit expires)

IMN permit is granted an extension or re-approval, or change in immigration status,

you must present in writing, at any Aduana office in the country or ACOA,

a letter describing the circumstances and expiration date of your new permit,

attaching a copy of proof of such proceedings and the vehicle import permit “
