stained glass

While planning to retire in Mexico in 18 months, I should like to continue with my hobby/business of working in stained glass fabrication. Having searched the net for resources on glass and related supplies to no avail, I was interested in finding if there is another person with some information on research direction. Thank You,Richard

Since there are definitely some artists working in stained-glass in Mexico, including at least one in Guadalajara, and, of course, any number of commercial glass manufactuers where glass is still made by hand, I would imagine that you will have little problem finding the resources you need. However, like many things in Mexico, you may have difficulty doing this "long distance", from outside the country and may have to make the "connections" to suppliers etc once you're inside the country.

Richard,

There's a gringo couple at Lakeside who offer lessons in stained glass work. I'm sure they could help if you're going to be anywhere near this area. They seem to have contacts for all the supplies and tools. E-mail me if you're interested in contacting them.

If you are in the Mazatlan area, there is a stained glass artist who is by far one of the best i've seen. His work is incredible. I can't remember his name but I know he works here so the materials must be available. So...if you ever decide to reside and work in Maz, let me know and I'll turn you on to the guy.

There's a stained glass studio in San Miguel de Allende and the owner seems to also be selling glass as well as finished products. Maybe he has other supplies as well; I've never gone in.

When I first came down to SMA ten months ago I brought a great deal of art supplies and thought I would have to be ordering from the States for replacements, but almost everything is available in town. Stained glass is a big thing here in the artisan shops; I'm guessing there are local suppliers but you probably won't find them right off the bat.
