spending a year in Mexico

My partner and I are interested in moving to Mexico, preferably in the Guanajuato/San Miguel area.
We want to spend a year there first to get a good feel for the country.
I speak fluent Spanish so communications should not be a problem.
Any tips on rentals or anything else would be very much appericated.
