something else tugging me to Mexico : laziness

I grow weary of translating English to Spanish : Every piece of mail, everything that gets sent from the elementary school home with the little one, ballet recital instructions, road signs, phone messages left on the answering machine, recipes, product use instructions, medical perscription dosage, etc, etc, etc.
Just yesterday my wife backed over a stop sign (remember she requested a vehicle that could stand doing stuff like that) because she pulled into a spot that was posted"No vehicles beyond this point" and quickly reversed out of there thinking it meant no parking. I wasn't there to translate.
I would just as soon "live in Spanish" and not deal with it.
Just something else to consider for you folks that think you're going to fall in love over summer vacation and bring that señorita/galán back home to the US.

Think I know pretty much what you mean. Fortunately, DW's english has improved quite a bit over the last few years, but I still get called on constantly for assistance. It's often frustrating as I run up against vocabulary words that I just don't have, or run into trying to explain the subtle difference between two concepts (imagine trying to make clear the difference between "Pass interference" and "Illegal use of hands").

Even more fortunately, we're now about 5 months and counting from the permanent move back down south (think "I'll be home for Christmas" sung to a mariachi beat, and with palm trees in place of pine trees). Of course at that time I'll wind up being the local resident expert on english for all the nieces, nephews and cousins, so I don't see myself as getting out of the translation business anytime soon.

To say nothing of translating attitude: when my daughter -- then 18 -- now, gracias a dios, 34, was preparing to get her driver's license in the US (she had an Ecuadorian license) she ran a stop sign right in front of the state trooper's barracks! "What the hell are you thinking of?" I gently asked her. "What?" "That stop sign in front of the state police???????"

"Oh. That. That is just a suggestion."

Strange and unbelievable though it may seem, she has never had a ticket. This does not mean she has never been stopped. If nothing else, she leaves 'em laughing.
