just saying hi

I subscribed to mexconnect to know about Mexico in general and also as a possible retirement. I've only been to TJ, Rosarito, and Ensenada so far. I have traveled South America and lived in Peru a few months and know Spanish fairly well.
When I returned from my last trip people remarked how well I looked and I did lose weight. I believe it was from the diet. I usually do the farmer market routine, natural jugo, caldo de gallina or whatever and that gallina I ate today was probably running around squacking in someones yard yesterday whereas in USA, hard to get fresh anything. I also try to stay with people I find through contacts or relatives. Living in the barrio for me is more interesting than say howard johnsons. I was lucky there. I knew a lady that had lived in USA years back and her brother married my daughter, so I stayed at her house in the provinces outside Lima. Usually I stay in hostels or cheap but acceptable hotels. Anyway Guadalajara is my next destination since I have a contact there I used to know in So Cal. I always pay good, never free load on any one. I figure from Guadalajara I can then see other cities. From what little I know the Chapala region is a little pricey because of the gringo population, is that right? Anyways just here to say hi and maybe I'll bump into some of you sometime. Jasonnfree
p.s. I'm 64 and retired.

Welcome Jason to the forum. Have you ever traveled south of Ensenada in Baja? They really are two very different places. If you like San Diego weather and beach living it really is hard to beat. We are on the coast outside of San Quintin, about a two and a half hour drive south of Ensenada and love it here.

And the fishing is great if you enjoy that kind of sport...

I'll have to check your area out. Thanks for reply and also pictures of your house project. I never want to own a house anymore so where I settle I'll hopefully rent. Luckily I'm not fussy. I have an 800 s.f. mobile up by oregon border and it's fine for me. If anything it's too large. Take care. Jason

I fear the drug wars are continuing part of our lives. There is no end in sight.

Jason- If you want to get a sense of Lake Chapala and the Western Highlands of Mexico, you might want to check out http://cookjmex.blogspot.com/ It is a photojournal of our adventures here and I think you might enjoy it as a prelude to coming to the Guadalajara area (I've got a pretty good section on Guadalajara too). Buena suerte!
