imss question july 2003

wonder if anyone can help me about IMSS, the Mexican National Health Insurance.
Elsewhere on the site I read that this insurance is available to FM3 holders and with pictures and copies of passport and birth certificate one can purchase this. However, I get so much conflicting information, even a nice attorney who is helping me gets an OK one day, and "never heard of" the other. What I need now is information from someone who has actually received it, shows me and/or scans to me a form with the IMSS seal on it and thus help me educate the officials here on allowing me to receive that insurance.

reading on this forum, I realize that this insurance may no longer be available. In that case, can anyone recommend a reasonable alternative for a single person? I currently live in cd.Victoria, Tamaulipas.

thank you,

AFAIK, IMSS coverage is still available to foreigners under the terms you've described. You might take a loot at the IMSS website at http://www.imss.gob.mx/.

http://www.allnation.com/is what I have now.

http://www.gnp.com.mx/Clientes/homegnp.nsf is what I'm thinking about switching to.

I've had IMSS coverage for 3 years. It's easy and very cheap, but I have never used it. I have it in case I get hit by a bus--a very likely posibility where I live. Up to age 60 it's about 1600 pesos fopr a year--after that it jumps to about 2200-2300. (I can't remember the exact costs--obviously.)

Thank you for your reply. Is there a way you could scan your card and attach it. Here, where I live, NOBODY has heard of it and is even interested in finding out. So, my abogado helper suggested that we actually see an endorsement, have a copy and show it to the IMSS people and that way, maybe convince them that we are not dreaming this up.

You are right, I only want one for the bus hits.

I´m in Puerto Vallarta at the moment. When I get home early next week I´ll look at my documents. Send me a fax number (in a private e-mail if you prefer)--I don´t have a scanner.

I appreciate the links of possible insurance companies to consider. Wanting to arrange some type of global insurance, probably with high deductibles so that it's affordable, to cover the catastrophic event that hopefully will never happen.

Does anyone know how hard it is to actually be accepted - what does it take to be denied? High cholesterol? Need for certain medications, etc? And how do you know if the company is trustworthy?

I really appreciate Mexconnect being here for the occasional questions andcomments we'd all like to share. I'm a regular reader and occasional contributer.
