electricity out? so what? Big deal.

Experience in Mexico has shown me that loss of electricity doesn't mean that life ends. "But my cell phone carrier is knocked out" so? If my phone didn't ring for a week or so that would be great. "My BUSINESS depends on electricity". So? Lock the doors and take a couple of days off. Is your business perched so precariously that a couple of day lost revenue would ruin you? Livin' a bit close to the edge, I'd say. "But air conditioning..." Didn't have it before. "My Nintendo, the Soaps, the ballgame on Cable......" And it goes on, and on....buncha weenies.

We have a Mexican friend who lives with his famiy on their goat ranch in a remote area outside Saltillo. Neither he nor his neighbors has ever had electricity, although he makes good money selling milk to a regional Nestle company everyday. This also means no refrigeration on the ranch. Several weeks ago a large black bear killed one of his cows. He chased off the bear, but there was no way to preserve the meat. So what did he do? He invited all the neighbors over for a fiesta and that solved the problem. One of the most charming traits of our Mexican friends is an ability to take adversity in stride and come up with limonada.

Being without electricity seems to be beyond comprehension ......even back in in 2003.

(C&P from the CFE, English, home page)

"CFE’s commitment is to offer excellent service, and as it guarantees high quality standards in all its processes, it rivals the best electrical companies in the world."

It was written that they never have had electric so it is not a CFE problem. CFE has always done a great job in our town, far better than ComEd ever did up north.

Alex, I think that kind of attitude is *one* of the reasons the Mexican economy struggles. You can say that this is a better and happier lifestyle but it definitely is not a more efficient and productive lifestyle. Satisfying obligations to clients, keeping customers happy, meeting deadlines, honoring commitments, keeping appointments, etc. is necessary for a business community to function economically. Too much to really get into right now but just wanted to make the point that there are two sides to the coin.

2003!!! Got me.

This is the 4th decade I have lived and worked in this country. One of the big differences that I very much like between your country and here is that here that the life sapping point of view "time is money" doesn't apply.

If you can't look at those overcrowded freeways crisscrossing Houston where commuters spend 20% of their waking hours and all of the boring, nondescript, homogenous housing tracts and strip malls with restaurants serving "it all tastes the same heat and serve meals prepared in food service factory kitchens" laced with who knows what additives and become convinced that the gringo attitude about life sucks then you have no hope.

Thank God there are people on this planet with other apirations.

This thread started in 2003. It has been resuscitated in error and seems to have become nothing more than a shooting match. Locked.
