dial2home phone system

Does anyone there use dial2home (a highspeed internet phone system). I read about it after seeing a reference to it on another website. It uses a phone connected to your computer. Outgoing calls go over the internet until it reaches the area you are calling, and then it transfers into the local phone system. In coming calls work in reverse. If the person you are calling subscribes to dial2home, I suppose the call goes from computer to computer.

It seems like an economical way to stay in touch with folks at home in the States or Canada.

How does it work for you for local calls?

Is the phone quality good?

thanks in advance

Internet phones (PC to Phone) work the best with a high speed connection either cable or ADSL (in Mexico Telmex/Prodigy Infinitum).

With either of those, and some luck, you'll get calls that cost .039 cents (USD) calling from Mexico to the US and Canada. The quality is very good although not perfect and not the same quality everytime. I have used both Dialpad.com and mediaring.com both have given me excellent service. With either of these companies, it's easiest to use a Visa or MC with a US address and ONLY a US address. When you type in your credit card information it has to be EXACTLY as it is stated on your billing info. Otherwise, you'll end up in a flying paper fantasy world and no connection. You need a headset with a microphone to make it easier.

You can use MSN messenger to talk PC to PC for free. There are some other PC to PC programs that are either free or cheap that will allow you to talk but the catch is that both have to be online at the same time.

An excellent alternative is described in the technical forum.

After 2 months of use - it has proved itself.

Hi Pat,

While living in Cancun a few months ago I was using a service called Dialpad. I could access it from the internet at www.dialpad.com. The rates for calling the US were very low, if I remember correctly as low as 5 cents per minute! The service was very easy to use and for $15.00 I must have called home for about 3-4 hours of time. You do need a high speed connection and the service can be a little tinny sometimes but well worth it for the price.

Thanks David, In looking at dial2home, i found that for about $60.00 US per month, one can have 1000 minutes of calling time to anywhere in the world. Calls between subscribers are always free, so if your most frequent calls were to fellow subscribers, you could opt for a less expensive program. Otherwise, the program you describe sounds very similar. Thanks. Pat
