When You Are Robbed

This is a story involving happenings and subsequent events in Ajijic village, municipality of Chapala on the North Shore of Lake Chapala. I will tell what happened to me and how, through much stress and effort I have at least partially recovered. If you are interested in what may and in all probabilty will happen to you in Mexico or anywhere else, I refer you to my post under the Lake Chapala Forum on Mexconnect. If you go there after giving me sufficient time to post my experience, you should find your readings beneficial.

Guys:

I have finished my initial post on this thievery so please go to the Lake Chapala Forum for more details. Later I will explain what happened when I tried to replace my American Express and VISA Debit cards and Jalisco Driver´s License but, as entertaining and informative as those posts will be I first want people living near Ajijiic to know immediately of the necessity of avoiding like the palgue any assistance from anybody in the Ajijic WalMart parking lot which seems to be a rogue´s campground and thieve´s redoubt.

Geez, Dawg. Well, don't feel lonely, my wallet was stolen from my bag on Sept. 6, also at the supermarket but inside. Later I figured out what must have happened. The store (despite not being WalMart) stocks some imported products that aren't labeled in Spanish, so people are always asking me things like "Is this about 400 grams?" "Is this pineapple?" On the day in question, a young man asked me something more challenging than usual, like, "Don't they have this shape of pasta in that other brand?" so I found it for him. In retrospect, he took off in a rush, but I didn't even remember him until the following day, and then mainly because he was muy guapo. Duh.

Anyhow, not only had I just visited the ATM, but I'd been to Los Cabos the previous day and still had cards in there that I don't normally carry. Plus I was tired and not paying attention, but I sure woke up when I got to the checkout with a cart full of stuff and no money. The store security folks were sympathetic and helpful, but their cameras didn't catch anything, and they admitted to not having them in all sections. (My neighbors say the ladrones know exactly where the cameras are.) The worst damage was 3500 pesos in cash. 250 pesos of charges were made before I got the cards blocked, but the card companies covered that.

I'll wait for your story about replacing cards, etc. Mine isn't particularly interesting, except that my new BCS license pic is more flattering than the old one was.
