Vehicle Legalization

Has anyone had luck with legalization of a 1993 or older DIESEL crew cab pick up. I have been told that SECOFI now and then will issue a permit for legalizing this type of vehicle in Mexico. Any information on this process would be appreciated.

"From time to time" pretty well sums it up. Right now it's not happening. One of my friends who keeps up with these things says maybe in June the door will open again. I have been told the diesels and crew cabs are allowed less often than simple pickups.

Diesel trucks as well as trucks over 6800 lb. GVW (I think that is the figure) are specifically prohibited. Duallies are also not allowed. As well the truck has to be a regular pickup without modifictions: no tow trucks, flat beds, etc. I have seen diesels and duallies but they may have been imported when they were new or when there was an amnesty for illegal vehicles. OR???

Bringing it in with your FM3 is no problem. Only getting Mexican plates is a problem.

mikelangford: Ypu are talking about a different animal. Your FM3 is a tourist visa for YOU not for your vehicle. FM3 is issued by immigration. Car permits are issued by customs, a different government department. Any type of tourist visa will allow you to bring your truck into the country for the length of validity of your tourist permit. Legallizing a vehicle has nothing to do with your FM3.

Yes, I know that. Sorry, I worded that response poorly. Thanks.
