Trailer import.

Last year as a tourist I brot in a 5th wheel and imported it for 10 years. It will stay here while I return to the states. I have since gotten my fm3. I will be returning and getting a new permit for my truck under my fm3 can I bring in a box trailer even though I already have a 5th wheel here.

As Rolly and others will probably tell you, the trailer that you already imported is attached to your vehicle permit. Therefore, you cannot technically return to the U.S. with said vehicle and have it voided in order to bring in a new trailer unless you exit with the trailer currently attached to your permit. This topic has been repeatedly discussed on this and other forums and you are caught in the Mexican version of Catch 22!

I'm not sure that a 5th wheel with a 10 year import permit is tied to the towing vehicle - it has permission to stay here for a 10 year period, while the tow vehicle has only a 180 day permit. It's not the same as towing in a cargo trailer - which goes right along with the vehicle pulling it.

Thank you for the aticulated responce. I have been doing the trailer jockey thing in mexico for 5 years. As of now I have 4, countem 4 trailers here. 1 I bought here in la cruz 12ft box, 1- 8tf box, I towed in with the truck I brought the 5th wheel in with as they did not seem to know about as it came here in 03, and one I brought down in pieces-half in the 5th wheel and half in the back of my powerstroke calling it a generator at that place south of nagales. That was a water well driller I cut up with a plasma cutter. So now the trailer jennie probaly will not shine on me this time so we will leave the little box trailer in mendo till my girl gets the papers in order. Thanks!
