Tourist visa

If I move to Cozumel for six months on a tourist visa (Jan-June), how soon can I return on a tourist visa?

If we decide we want to do the FM3, how long can I expect it to take if I am in Cozumel? If I am in Michigan?

About 5 minutes after you exit the country! An exit is required, but there is no waiting period between successive FMTs.

INAMI sets a 35-day time frame for processing FM3s. The time frame is somewhat less for FM3 applications at Mexican Consulates, but those times vary across the country. At some Consulates, FM3s are ready on the next business day, and others require about a week.

Jennifer, I have been reading posts on Mexico-Connect for several months now, while gathering information for my wife and my upcoming visit to lakeside in Sept.

Having you (and a few others -- Rolly also comes quickly to mind) to provide accurate posts is a great benefit to all of us.

I guess that explains some of the trips to Belize that I hear about. lol This is good to know and will help with the transition to know there is some flexibilty. I'm really getting excited!!

As you may know, Trudy, the way the law is enforced in Mexico varies vastly depending on the location, the person on duty, even the time of day. The latest I hear about the Belize dance to get your 6 month tourist visa renewed is this: They used to just let you get it right at the crossing. And sometimes a bottle of tequila or decent brandy would be all that was needed and you turned around and headed right back over. Now you have to stay a certain number of hours. I have a friend who did this within the last 6 months and had to stay overnight before going back out. So keep a flexible plan and attitude because it may have changed again since then. And probably has.

Friends just did the quick turn around in Laredo, but they had to bribe the agent to get 180 days. Also, the INAMI office in Leon, Gto. will not accept a renewal application over 30 days prior to expiration--so don't show up one day early--31-days-- (like I did) and expect them to accept the paperwork.

The window for FM-3 renewals is 30 days before and 60 days after the expiration date. The 35-day figure is the one for targetted for processing time once the documentation has been accepted by INAMI.
