The Stain of Mole

Can't Post |
"What, will these hands ne're be clean?"

We have a wonderful array of laundry soaps around here – liquid detergent, detergents for whites, blue jeans and black clothing, powdered bleach-filled detergents, Zote and Mas. Vanish stain remover. One kind of laundry soap simply isn’t enough! Even with limes, salt and club soda.

But then there’s the issue of mole. A reasonable person would wear madras when eating mole, but some of us just never learn, always managing to wear white or at least a very light color when we eat mole. And no matter how careful we are, there’s always that very last drop which manages to land right down the front, on a sleeve cuff, somewhere. But short of scrubbing away for hours with a toothbrush with every stain remover known to mankind, is there a better way to remove mole stains from white and light-colored clothing and white tablecloths?

Tide with bleach (outrageously expensive!!) has never failed me, but all moles have different ingredients.

For stains my mom used and I use Dawn Dishwashing Liquid. Put some on the stain and rub it in and wash it. Works GREAT!

What?! You ladies have never heard of the "BIZ Bucket"? I thought every household had one. Your husbands must not make as big of a mess of themselves as I do. My wife is not going to believe this?

What some of you seem to forget is that in Mexico not all U.S. or Canadian brands, e.g. Biz, are available except at markets specifically serving expatriate communities. Even some products sold under a name recognized outside of Mexico may have a different formulation.

Plain ole Mexican yellow bar soap, one of those big laundry bars, should do the trick. You or your maid will still have to work it, but that soap takes everything out of EVERYTHING...even mole or mango stains out of a white blouse.

This is a cute thread - it made me chuckle, and after the day I had that was a good thing! I have learned something from this thread too. Laundry here has always perplexed me. My husband tried to teach me the "Mexican way" of washing clothes...NOT! I use that concrete laundry sink thingy for a variety of tasks but not scrubbing down the clothes, no way Jose! The other thing is that the challenge of the whites being white and furthermore, the blacks remaining black. I just read above that there are special soaps for darks, for whites etc. I got a super sale on "Tide" which I had never seen here before and I now suspect that it is taking the black out of the blacks. How complicated for someone used to throwing things into an automatic and having it done just fine! Anyway, this is fairly tongue in cheek as I have my trusty back-up "laundry lady" Señora Tabatha who charges by the kilo if all else fails! Thanks for the help!

That Mexican 'laundry sink thingy' is the only thing missing from my wonderful little house to make it perfect. Some unknowing foreign renter had it removed at some point in the past and installed the water heater where it had been, leaving no space for a replacement. But ohhhhh, how I wish it were still here: it's the best thing ever for getting clothes really clean. Have you ever noticed how incredibly just-like-new fresh most white clothes look here (pay attention to anybody in a white shirt and suit, or school-uniform shirts)? It's because of the washing they get using the lavandería mexicana. Years ago, a close friend of mine taught me how to wash clothes estilo mexicano and for several years I washed everything~bedding, clothing, table linens~by hand. Man, my clothes had never been so clean!

Some of the detergents have bleach in them, which is probably why your blacks (and other colors) are fading. I'd read the label. Oh, and if you're hanging the clothes in the sun to dry, turn your colored clothes inside out before you clothespin them to the line. The 'right' side fades much more slowly that way.

You are right! My suegra looked at my laundry sink and pila and said that she has always wanted one but never had one. She said that anyone who is anyone always had one! Maybe I will take those laundry lessons after all...I wondered why my whites were off-white and everyone elses were so white!! Thanks.
