Temporal Residente Visa....officially sunk and can't figure out why

Can't Post | Private Reply
Hello everyone. I have read on this forum and many other websites the "requirements" of getting approval for a residente temporal and it seems not to apply to myself.
After driving 4 hours from Vermont to Boston (the nearest mexican consulate) I was officially shot down today. After asking me for proof of social security deposits, I explained to the receptionist that I am not retired but I work for myself here in the States and that I have my bank statements as proof of income. She wanted the past 3 months to take and show to her superior (whom I never was able to meet or talk to in person). She came back and said that he wanted something more than bank statements as proof of continuous income. I explained to her that I was self-employed and that I don't have anything but my business bank account as proof of what I make. I asked if I provided last years income tax return records, would that be enough proof and that wasn't good enough either. I make about $55,000/year and can show proof of that but apparently that's not good enough if you're self-employed. I have a friend of mine who runs my business when I'm away and I make plenty enough to live on in Mexico for 8 months and then return for 4 months to work.
Any suggestions from any you who may have dealt with something similar?
I really want to get my residente temporal visa so I can bring down my car.

Maybe you could try different consulate...? That's what I did years ago, when they gave me hard time in San Francisco. I took a plane to San Diego, and had no problems at the consulate there.

Welcome to the Mexico Way. Each consulate seems to set their own rules on what they will or will not accept; mine wanted six month statements -OR- paystubs (I used the later), and also took a copy of my W-2. If for whatever reason you're in Portland, OR, there webpage is pretty clear on what they will and won't take, and the consolar was extremely nice

Temporal Residente isn't required to bring down a vehicle, you can do it as a Visitante; are you sure you *really* want to go through the pain?

I did it because I forsee needing the ability to fly out on command while not making the journey to a border.

My husband and I applied this way through the Chicago Consulate. We are self employed as well.

We had 6 months worth of personal bank statements showing our regular deposits, our LLC registration proving we owned the business and the business account proving additional assets.

We also use a service called Paychex - so we also provided actual pay stubs of our biweekly deposits over the last 6 months.

However, you can live in Mexico for 180 days and the leave for 72 hours and reclaim a tourist stay for another 180 days. So depending on your situation you might be able to just cross the border for a weekend and return for another 6 months - without ever needed the visa.

"...and the leave for 72 hours and reclaim a tourist stay for another 180 days."

I'm not sure where you got this 'requirement' but many folks have reported a turnaround either 'immediately' or within a couple of hours. The only border I've ever heard this to be the situation is the border with Belize and I'm not too sure that is the case any more (or ever for that matter).

YMMV

I've driven friends to the Chetumal/Belize border crossing 2 different times and they renewed visitor's visas without even leaving Mexico. There have been past internet reports here on Mexconnect that the INM agents at 2 different Guatemalan border crossings have required several day stays in Guatemala before they permitted the applicant to return into Mexico. These were all over a year ago. Do we have any more recent reports?

Resubmit your request for a visa and enclose a free form letter stating your request and reasons, indicating your request complies with the requirements listed for Tramite 5, LINEAMIENTOS generales para la expedición de visas que emiten las secretarías de Gobernación y de Relaciones Exteriores:
Visa de Residencia Temporal: Aplicable a personas extranjeras que pretenden internarse a México en la condición de residente temporal con el objeto de permanecer por un tiempo mayor a 180 días y no mayor a 4 años.
......
IV. Presentar los documentos que acrediten alguno de los siguientes supuestos:
a. Solvencia económica:

I have heard both. More recently I have heard it's immediate, but when doing research online before we got here (here... as in Tulum) it was 72 hours.

I wasn't sure which was correct. So that's even more convenient, good to know!

When applying for my Residente Temporal visa I took one year's worth of checking account and savings account statements. They told me to leave my passport with them and come back in two hours & that the visa would be attached to it.

But Rick, I remember that you said a while back that you planned to split your time between Mexico and Boston anyway. If you go down each year on a tourist visa it'll keep you legal for 180 days each time. Why would you particularly require the RT visa?
