Selling artwork

An American friend paints and occasionally sells her work here in Mexico. She is concerned about the legality of doing this. Are permits required, and what are the local/state tax implications?

Any advice or links to info would be appreciated-thanks.

She is working and doing business in Mexico. Yes, she needs an FM3 with a special endorsement for artists.

A friend here in Mazatlan was reported for selling her art without the appropriate FM3. She was fined was threatened with deportation.

Find a good accountant and he/she can help you through the process. Its NOT complicated.

Yes, she should be concerned and get right with the law. Her biggest enemy in the end might be someone, not me, but like me who is offended by other gringos who do the same. There is no excuse, IMHO. And then there are those who get all pricy with you in the process of grabbing for dollars that 10 percent of which could enter the system. I'll stop.
