It is more than a hassle, it is illegal. When you bring in a car on a temporary import permit, it is just that, temporary. When you sign the permit application, you are promising to remove the car from the country eventually. I have had some Mexicans ask me to to this for them too. They say "It is no problem." That is true for them probably. They will already know which official they can pay to falsify Mexican papers for the car. The consequences for you will be that you will never be allowed to bring another car in to Mexico, until you can prove that the first car has been removed from the country.
