My husband and I are planning on retiriing to Mexico in about 5 years. We want a place on the Pacific ocean side in a tropical area. What would you recommend?

You've got 5 years, a good amount of time to investigate and then visit the areas that you find interesting. Searching these forums for information will give you a great start, and there are lots of tourist guidebooks available in your public library that will tell you more about any given area. Nothing beats an on-site visit to an appealing location, where you can talk to people who live in the place you're visiting. IMHO, the bottom line is personal preference: what I like may not be what you like, even though the place I'm living might have attributes that you're looking for. Best of luck to you in your search.

There are some wonderful locations on the west coast of Mexico to live. You need to think about what you want in terms living style. Urban or rural? Do you want to be near other ex pats? Is the internet a necessity for you? Do you want to be on the coast or inland?

We bought a lot in a development called Villa Dorada. It's near Playa Azul/Larzaro Cardenas,Michoacan. It's a small development on the coast with a pool, restaurant and gate. If you want more details-let me know. We have the lot and now are planning to build a small house.

Could you share the price of the property with me? We want something nice but it doesn't have to be a mansion. Close to ex pat and civilization.

thanks

We paid $16,000 for the lot which includes electricity, water and sewer along with access to a very large pool, beach and ocean. Our lot is approximately 312 square meters.

The area around La Manzanilla and Barra De Navidad in the state of Jalisco is a nice beach area. Lots of expats, beautiful beaches and water, wonderful weather, and very friendly locals.

There is lots of information and pictures on www.tomzap.com

You can also send me an email @mexicodave_2000@hotmail.com for more info.

Good luck, you are moving in the right direction.
