Registering A Car In Mexico

Can't Post | Private Reply
I've been away from this board since April; seasonal business demands curtail my being able to participate. Anyhow....I have a car registered in two peoples name in MA. I'll be driving it down to PVR in October. The two people who it is registered to, both with FM3's want to leave it there to use when we are there. Another person who spends more time there than we do has secure parking. We have offered her the use of our car when we are not there in turn for the year round parking. Does anybody know the Mexican law as to we can have her legally use the car without us being in the vehicle with us? WE want to register the car in Mexico and get Mexican license plates, etc. Does she have to be on the title in the U.S. for us to do this?

Read Ley Aduanera http://www.cddhcu.gob.mx/leyinfo/pdf/12.pdf At Art. 106 (IV(a), you will find who’s permitted to drive a temporarily imported motor vehicle with the importer aboard and without. Your friend’s nationality, immigration status and relation to you are determining factors.

Registering a foreign-plated car in Mexico isn’t simply a matter of strolling into the local DMV as you might if you were registering the car in the next state over from Massachusetts. There’s the no-so-slight matter of importing the motor vehicle. Rather than explain the process at length here, I suggest that you use the search function on this forum.
