Question / FMT to FM-3 Surrendering Car Permit

Can't Post | Private Reply
I am assuming that upon obtaining an FM-3 Rentista, within Mexico I can surrender (a still valid) car permit and obtain a receipt at an appropriate SHCP oficina de Hacienda. Any suggestions?

It's not quite clear exactly what it is you want to do. Do you want to retain the car in Mexico, remove it from Mexico, or what?

Hi Jennifer,

When I obtain my FM-3 I will not have to continue bonding my car at the border. Yet the permiso that now applies expires in November and I do not wish to return to the US. If I fail to surrender the permit then I will have a problem on my hands.

Let me see if I understand what you're trying to say. You entered with a foreign-plated motor vehicle on an FMT, which expires in November. You are in the process of obtaining an FM-3. You wish to retain the right to maintain and drive that foreign-plated vehicle under your FM-3. You do not plan to return to the U.S., at least for the time being.

The car permit you now have will remain in full force and effect after the issuance of your FM-3. You do not need to surrender that car permit. Familiarize yourself with Section 106 of the Ley Aduanera, which provides that the car permit remains good so long as your immigration status remains good, whether under an FMT, FM-3 or FM-2 and during periods of its renewal.

If you do a search with the terms "FM-3 car permit" you will find a number of prior threads which address your situation, including notification to Banjercito.
