Own business in México

Can't Post |
I am moving to Puerta Vallarta very soon. I own an online travel business, which is not a brick and mortar affair, but strictly web based. My clients are all in the U.S. Even though I am earning only online, I will in fact be in Mexico. Also I am a retiree with a more than adequate income to qualify for a retirees visa in México. Will I need a seperate or other type of visa to work in México with this kind of business setup? Also I am taking very little in the way of household items, with the exeption of my computer (which is one year old) and clothes and automobile. Do I need to get a casa de menaje permit for just a desktop and a laptop computer? I will buy a printer when i arrive. I appreciate your responses.

Normally you would need a permit to bring in more than one computer with you into the country. But sicn eut would be only 2 They tend to let it slide.. Just act ignorant and claim they are both for personal use an dyou should be able to get both of them in with no problem.

Thanks Trent. I kinda knew that. I hope someone will help me with my online business questions. You are the only person that responded. I appreciate your answer. There are so many inconsistencies that it's a little tough to figure out. Muchas gracias. Tomás.

Dear Tomas,

I believe, according to my various experiences in Mexico regarding your online business that you are legally safe. You can practice your business legally because it is not income based from Mexico, and you can legally maintain it from any place within the country. As far as what was previously stated regarding your computers, I disagree. You will be allowed to import your laptop, but your USED pc will have to be abandoned at the border. I suggest that you purchase a new one before your visit to Mexico. If you bring a new PC, you must provide the receipt and pay taxes (not much though). If you have a menaje de casa, you can bring in used computers (PC'S). Good Luck. If I can be of any help, email me at trav6dy@aol.com.
